Daunt Books has promoted Sophie Missing to publisher.
Missing joined Daunt in early 2018 after working as a freelance editor and writer, and co-authoring three cookbooks published by Square Peg. Prior to that she was assistant editor at Fig Tree, working with Juliet Annan.
She has acquired and published a range of literary fiction and narrative non-fiction titles at Daunt, including the Booker-shortlisted Real Life by Brandon Taylor, the original essay collections At the Pond and In the Kitchen, and out-of-print modern classics such as Saturday Lunch with the Brownings by Penelope Mortimer and Approaching Eye Level by Vivian Gornick. Her forthcoming titles include Taylor’s first short story collection Filthy Animals, In the Garden, and Look Here by journalist Ana Kinsella.
Daunt’s current publisher Željka Marošević is leaving at the end of January to join Jonathan Cape as editorial director.
Commenting on her appointment, Missing said: "I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role at Daunt. It’s an exciting time for us and I can’t wait to continue to grow and expand our publishing and bring more brilliant authors to the list."
Rose Cole of Daunt Books said: "We’re absolutely thrilled that Sophie is taking the helm at Daunt Books Publishing, she has a fantastic instinct for the business which has been shown by her many successes since she joined us."
Daunt Book is now hiring a new editorial staff member for its publishing operation.
