'Solid' start to 2012 for Quarto

Quarto has announced "solid" first quarter results for 2012, with revenue up 4% year on year to $33.9m (£22.9m) from $32.6m (£20.1m) and operating profit up 35% from $494k (£305k) to $666k (£411k).

The company said its book publishing segment increased operating profit by 9%, helped by "improved results in the US and the UK", with digital revenues increasing threefold to almost 3.5%. However the international co-edition segment "continues to encounter some softness in major markets," the publisher said.

Quarto said the three month period accounts for "no more than about one sixth of annual revenues".
