Solid profits for Pearson publishers


Worldwide sales at Penguin Group jumped 8% to &pound;565m in the year to 31st December 1999, according to preliminary results from UK-based parent company Pearson. Total operating profits at the group were up 35% to &pound;65m.</p><p>

Anthony Forbes Watson, Penguin UK m.d., said: "It was a great year for the group, and Penguin UK more than pulled its weight. Our sales were up by just under 5% and we had a really good year in terms of profitability."</p><p>
The results do not separate Penguin UK's profits, but the UK business is thought to contribute about one third of Penguin's overall ...
