Scholastic has made two senior appointments in newly created roles.
Samantha Smith has joined from Little, Brown in the role of fiction publisher, with Rachel Partridge [pictured] moving from Universal Pictures to take up the post of group marketing and publicity director.
Smith will be joining Scholastic on 20th May, and leaves her current post as editorial director at Little, Brown where she has worked with authors including Stephenie Meyer, P C and Kirstin Cast and Chris Colfer. She will report to m.d. Hilary Murray Hill, who has overall responsibility for Scholastic's trade publishing in the UK.
Murray Hill said Smith will "take the Scholastic list forward in new directions". Smith said: "I'm thrilled to be joining Scholastic. It's a house with a brilliant publishing history, one that I very much grew up with, but that remains a vibrant and dynamic part of children's publishing today and is incredibly well-placed to meet the challenges of the market
Meanwhile, Partridge will take up her post at the children's publisher in June, reporting into co-group m.d. Catherine Bell. Partridge said she is looking forward to developing campaigns with "deep consumer connections".
Bell said: "Rachel's passion for promoting authors and illustrators, her ability to build brands and reach consumers with engaging and creative communication will ensure Scholastic and our books will be front of mind for parents, children and teachers."
The appointments follow a period of staff changes at Scholastic. Last month, it was announced publishing and commercial director Lisa Edwards will be joining Carlton as adult publisher on 29th April, and fiction editorial director Clare Argar also left to "pursue other opportunities".
Alice Swan left to join Faber Children's as commissioning editor at that point, with Genevieve Herr joining Scholastic as commissioning editor. Julie Randles, who had run the Scholastic Book Clubs for the past five years, also left the company at the end of March.
Meanwhile, marketing and communications director Alyx Price moved in March to Macmillan Children's Books to cover the role of communications director while Katharine Smales is on maternity leave, while publicity officer Catherine Alport also joined MCB as publicity manager on 11th February.
