David Suchet, Charles Dance, Andrew Sachs and Tamsin Greig are among the cast revealed this week for Sky1's forthcoming adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Going Postal. The two-part drama will be broadcast in 2010.
The 120-minute episodes follow on from the recent adaptation of Pratchett's The Hogfather, David Almond's Skellig, Martina Cole's The Take, and a forthcoming series based on Chris Ryan's Strike Back.
Elaine Pyke, Sky1's commissioning editor for drama, confirmed that the channel would continue to use books as a basis for dramas. Speaking to The Bookseller, she praised the dual effect of book jackets and marketing, which provides "a great weight and presence in the marketplace."
She added that she would be commissioning work from "lesser-known authors". "Not everything we are doing is by big blockbuster names," she said, although she declined to reveal future plans.
The first episode of "Martina Cole's The Take" scored a cumulative audience of 1.4m viewers. "[Cole] is a popular author and already a very good fit with Sky. As a reader, I can't put her down and I want to translate that on to the screen," Pyke said.
Transworld will publish the Going Postal tie-in on 17th June 2010.
