A new book by historian James Holland has been bought in two six-figure deals after bids, securing rights both in the UK and the USA.
Bill Scott-Kerr at Bantam bought the British Commonwealth rights for the two-volume book, The War in the West, a revisionist history of the Second World War based on new primary research and interviews with participants.
In an auction in the USA, North American and Canadian rights were secured by Morgan Entrekin at Grove Atlantic, fighting off seven other publishers in another six-figure deal.
Holland, brother of classical historian Tom Holland, has had two previous bestsellers with Dam Busters (Bantam) and The Battle of Britain (Bantam).
The 41-year-old has also presented documentaries on BBC2 and written several novels, and co-founded the Chalke Valley History Festival.
