Headline has signed a six-figure deal for seven books from crime author Colin Bateman.
The acquisition was made by Martin Fletcher, publisher-at-large at Headline, through Jonathan Lloyd at Curtis Brown for British Commonwealth rights and Europe to three new novels, including two in the bestselling Mystery Man series, and one in the Dan Starkey series, as well as four backlist titles.
Fletcher said: "Bateman's plots are wonderfully engaging and playfully macabre, and while he puts his characters through hell, the small guy always wins out."
Mystery Man title Dr Yes will be the first of the deal published, in June in paperback. The next will be Dan Starkey title Nine Inches, in October.
The backlist titles are Divorcing Jack, Of Wee Sweetie Mice and Men, Turbulent Priests and Shooting Sean, which were previously published by HarperCollins.
Bateman's Mystery Man series, featuring a crime-solving bookseller, has been optioned by the BBC, with casting currently taking place.
