Six Clinton Cards snapped up by The Works

<p>Remainder and discount chain The Works has bought six stores from card shop Clinton Cards to expand its retail estate.

The sites--in high street locations in Horsham, Sutton, Monmouth, Penzance, Huntingdon and Stirling--will all be trading by the end of August.

The chain said it plans to open 30 stores in each of the next five years to reach a target portfolio of 400 outlets by 2011.

Chris Maddox, chief executive at The Works, said: "The acquisition of small groups of good quality sites such as these six stores is a tremendous way of moving our store expansion programme forward."
