The Orion Publishing Group has struck a "major" deal to publish four new books by the internationally bestselling, prize-winning historian and novelist Simon Sebag Montefiore. The deal represents the first time that the Orion Publishing Group will have published both Sebag Montefiore's fiction and non-fiction titles.
World rights in all four titles were acquired from Georgina Capel at Georgina Capel Associates Ltd.
The first of the two non-fiction books, entitled The World: Starlighters, Sleepwalkers, Spellbinders – How Exceptional Leaders Ignited Change and Inspired Followers from Sargon to Trump, will be published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson. It promises to be "a magisterial new history of the world", told in the style of Jerusalem: The Biography.
The second non-fiction title, The Big Three: FDR-Churchill-Stalin, Converging Lives, will be a "gripping and fresh" account of how the lives of three very different politicians converged in the victorious Second World War alliance of Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin.
Sebag Montefiore, who most recently published his fiction with Cornerstone, will also publish a new novel with Orion Fiction entitled The Gamekeeper, described as a contemporary political thriller set in the Kremlin and the English countryside.
He commented: "I am delighted by this. I have enjoyed a long fruitful relationship with Hachette/Orion over 20 years with six big books; it is exciting to plan the next few years of this alliance."
David Shelley, Orion c.e.o., said: "Simon Sebag Montefiore is one of the great storytellers of our time – we have now sold over a million copies of his books at Orion - and I am thrilled that we will now be publishing both his non-fiction and his fiction. He has a unique way of bringing history to life and I am so much looking forward to working with him to get his books into the hands of millions more readers."
