Simon & Schuster Children's in both the UK and US will be publishing a picture book edition of Octopus's Garden by Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, a song he wrote 45 years ago.
The book will be illustrated by Ben Cort, the illustrator of Aliens Love Underpants, and will be published as a hardback edition plus CD. The audio content will include an original, previously unheard music track from Ringo and a reading of the story which describes being safe and happy on the ocean floor.
Children's publisher at Simon & Schuster UK bought world rights from Alex Ianev, new business development manager at Universal Music Publishing. The book will be published in the UK on 24th October as a hardback and CD, with a paperback edition to follow in 2014. US publication is planned for January 2014.
Selberg said: "As an original Beatles fan, publishing this book is a dream come true for me. By bringing Ben Cort on board we have arranged the perfect marriage of a truly child-friendly text, based on Ringo's popular song, with illustrations that revel in the imaginative opportunities presented by the lyrics. This a a beautiful and funny book that children, parents and grandparents will love sharing."
The song first appeared on the Beatles' Abbey Road album in 1969.
