BBC Radio 2's afternoon Simon Mayo show is to launch a book club from this Monday.
The presenter will look at both non-fiction and fiction titles, one every fortnight, beginning with Rebecca Hunt's Mr Chartwell (Fig Tree) on the 11th. At the end of the first on-air review, Mayo will announce the next title.
The slot will include author interviews, analysis and interaction with listeners via a web forum.
Mayo said: "The Radio 2 Book Club already sounds like the sort of idea that's been around for years. Of course it's brand-new but it's a perfect match.
"Books were an extremely important part of the 5 Live show I did for nine years and for all those who miss it still, the Radio 2 Book Club is what you've been waiting for."
The BBC promises a mix of titles, from "blockbusting thrillers to fantasy or romance novels".
The Simon Mayo show, which is broadcast on weekdays from 5.05-7 p.m. attracts 5.25m weekly listeners.
