Simon Mayo launches BBC Radio 2 Book Club

BBC Radio 2&#39;s afternoon Simon Mayo show is to launch a book club from this Monday.<br /><br />The presenter will look at both non-fiction and fiction titles, one every fortnight, beginning with Rebecca Hunt&#39;s <em>Mr Chartwel</em>l (Fig Tree) on the 11th. At the end of the first on-air review, Mayo will announce the next title.<br /><br />The slot will include author interviews, analysis and interaction with listeners via a web forum.<br /><br />Mayo said: &quot;The Radio 2 Book Club already sounds like the sort of idea that&#39;s been around for years. Of course it&#39;s brand-new but it&#39;s a perfect match.<br /><br />&quot;Books were an extremely important part of the 5 Live show I did for nine years and for all those who miss it still, the Radio 2 Book Club is what you&#39;ve been waiting for.&quot;<br /><br />The BBC promises a mix of titles, from &quot;blockbusting thrillers to fantasy or romance novels&quot;.<br /><br />The Simon Mayo show, which is broadcast on weekdays from 5.05-7 p.m. attracts 5.25m weekly listeners.
