Nikesh Shukla is launching his first podcast series “Brown Baby” in January 2021 in partnership with Acast, ahead of his forthcoming memoir of the same name.
The podcast is inspired by Brown Baby: A Memoir of Race, Family and Home, which is published by Bluebird in February 2021.
In his podcast, Shukla asks whether it is possible to raise children with joy and wonder in uncertain and increasingly bleak times. He will invite fellow parents—writers, musicians, chefs, comedians, actors and more—to talk about their parenting journeys and the highs and lows they have experienced along the way. Guests of the weekly series include actor Himesh Patel, singer-songwriter Jay Sean, author and presenter Nadiya Hussain, writers Kit de Waal, Hari Kunzru, Courttia Newland and Max Porter, plus comedian Josie Long.
Bluebird explained: “A frank, funny and poignant look at parenting, 'Brown Baby' will spark honest, self-effacing conversation about how we tell our kids about the world. Featuring parenting fails, plus the best (and worst) advice Nikesh and his guests have ever received, this is a comforting, uplifting podcast for anyone who has ever found themselves searching for answers in a sleep-deprived Google hole.”
Shukla said: “I’m a big podcast listener and I didn’t want to be the only man left without a podcast, so here it is! I jest, I jest. Basically, my memoir Brown Baby is a series of questions I am asking myself and the world, and the podcast is an opportunity to discuss those questions with parents who are raising their children at this time. How do we talk about climate collapse, race, gender? How do we stay upbeat and fun as well as honest and realistic? These are questions I wrestle with every day, and as my kids get older, the answers change. I look forward to discussing these questions with amazing guests.”
Clarissa Pabi, content development manager at Acast, added: “Acast are thrilled to be working with Nikesh on his first podcast. The 'Brown Baby' podcast represents an example of how authors can use their books as a springboard to create podcasts that complement the premise of their book, engage with podcast audiences and extend the conversation. Nikesh's is an essential voice in the publishing industry, and we're excited about having him as part of the podcast landscape.”
