Shuggie Bain leads Booker Prize shortlist in sales

Douglas Stuart's Shuggie Bain (Picador) is the bestseller of the 2020 Booker shortlist heading into the week of the announcement, though sales across this year's nominees are much more evenly spread than last year. 

Shuggie Bain has sold 16,854 copies in hardback since its publication in early August. However, Avni Doshi's Burnt Sugar (Hamish Hamilton), on 13,717 copies, Brandon Taylor's Real Life (Daunt), on 12,634, and Maaza Mengiste's The Shadow King (Canongate) on 12,554 have all surpassed 12,000 copies, which only a single title on the 2019 shortlist achieved—eventual joint winner The...
