Publishing Scotland has appointed Sheila Pinder as its new CEO after a “rigorous and competitive recruitment process.”
Pinder has previously held senior roles at the IPG and NBN International, as well as consulting with a number of publishing organisations.
It was announced in April that Marion Sinclair, who had been CEO since 2008, would be stepping down from the charity and membership body in summer 2025. At the time, she said: "With the recent securing of funding for the next three years, it now feels like the right moment to pass on the baton and herald the next chapter for Publishing Scotland. I look forward to supporting the transition to a new CEO in the months before departure."
Kate Gibb, board chair of Publishing Scotland, said: “Sheila was a standout choice for CEO. She is a passionate supporter of book publishing, with a strong interest in AI and the environment. She joins Publishing Scotland at a time of rising need and opportunity, bringing proven people leadership and deep expertise in publishing, distribution, and business delivery.
“We would also like to express our very sincere thanks to Marion Sinclair, our outgoing CEO, who has provided leadership, development and stability for the past 17 years and leaves with our heartfelt good wishes for the next stage of her journey.”
Pinder, who will take up the role on 14th August, said: “I am honoured to have been entrusted with this opportunity to lead Publishing Scotland, advocating for both publishing members and network members as we navigate this era of challenge to the industry together. In times of trouble our communities are vital, and Publishing Scotland supports a tenacious book industry community of interest with a strong sense of shared values, actively participating with other UK and international creative and business networks, all of which are more important than ever."
