Shake-up at Borders buying team

<p>Borders has appointed John Packard, previously senior buyer for fiction and children&#39;s at the retailer, as its new senior non-fiction buyer.</p><p>He replaces Guy Raphael, who left the retailer last month. Ruth Atkins, who was previously fiction buyer, has been appointed senior buyer for fiction and children&#39;s. Emma Carter, who was previously a merchandiser with responsibility for fiction and children&#39;s books, has been made a genre buyer<br />with the retailer.</p><p>Michael Jones, buying manager for books at Borders, said: &quot;Ruth&#39;s reputation as a fiction buyer is flawless, her depth of knowledge in her subject is second to none. We are excited that she will take both fiction and the thriving children&rsquo;s department to a whole new level.</p><p>&quot;John&rsquo;s experience in non fiction is well established and his leadership will be instrumental in developing Borders&rsquo;s core heartland in lifestyle, reference and academic categories.
