Elif Shafak and Marina Warner are among the authors attending the Edinburgh Book Fringe.
The festival, run by indie bookshops Lighthouse Books in Southside and Golden Hare Books in Stockbridge, brings authors, small presses and booklovers together throughout August in a series of free, unticketed events.
10 Minutes, 38 Seconds in this Strange World author Shafak (Viking) will appear at Lighthouse Books on 23rd August while Warner, writer of Forms of Enchantment (Thames & Hudson), will be at Golden Hare the day before.
Other highlights include an appearance from Derek Owusu, editor of Safe on 11th August, and an event with Tramp Press on 25th August.
Julie Danskin, manager of Golden Hare, and Lighthouse owner Mairi Oliver said: "Edinburgh is a brilliant city that can support several independent bookshops. Each bookshop is so different and unique to its community, so why wouldn't we work together? There's more than enough room for us all. After all, we have plenty in common.”
