Seventy-five indies to attend BA forum

More than 75 bookseller delegates will attend the Booksellers Association’s Independent Booksellers Forum event this weekend at the University of Warwick.

The two-day forum will feature a trade show by Gardners and a presentation from American independent bookseller Joel Sheldon, who owns Vromans Bookstore in Pasadena. He will discuss the challenges the independent sector faces in the US book market. There will also be several workshops on dealing with customers and innovating business.

The forum will be held at the Panorama Suite in the Rootes Conference Centre at the University of Warwick. Meryl Halls, head of membership services at the BA, said the early autumn event was becoming more of a "general conference" for the independent sector. "I think the main thing booksellers get from it is meeting other people and learning from their experiences," she said. "The peer-to-peer aspect of it is important. Booksellers get a huge amount out of hearing what other indies have done themselves."
