Second UK visit for Hadfield

Second UK visit for Hadfield

Retired astronaut Chris Hadfield is making a series of appearances in the UK this week on a second PR visit for An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth (Macmillan).

Hadfield was previously in the UK in December, a visit which his publisher said saw sales of his book increase by 200% from the previous week.

The Canadian, who became famous after he released a video of himself performing David Bowie’s Space Oddity on the International Space Station, will appear on BBC Stargazing Live with Brian Cox today (8th January) and tomorrow, and will also appear on BBC Breakfast on tomorrow morning and at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition on Saturday (11th).

He will also take part in signings at Foyles in Charing Cross Road, London (15th), at Easons in Derry (13th) and Belfast (14th).

Over 600 people attended Hadfield’s December signing at at Waterstones Piccadilly was attended by over 600 people, while a signing at Waterstones in Cardiff had to be extended to three hours due to public demand, Macmillan said. Jon Butler, Macmillan’s non-fiction publisher, said: "With over 300,000 copies in print in Canada alone, we knew that when Colonel Hadfield touched down in the UK we might see a special reaction from readers - but nothing like this. He's a humble, charming, hard-working hero to so many people, and his special book really delivers a flavour of the wonder and magic of space travel."

An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth has sold 39,890 copies to date via Nielsen BookScan.
