The Reading Agency is launching a hunt for the début author the UK’s reading groups most want to read and champion in 2015.
The search, in partnership with The Booksellers Association, will culminate in the winner being announced on National Reading Group Day on 20th June.
Publishers who are members of The Reading Agency’s partnership programme, which brings libraries and publishers together, are invited to nominate recent titles by debut writers which they would like to share with reading groups “to inspire them to discover something different”.
Karen Brodie, head of publisher partnerships with The Reading Agency, said: “National Reading Group Day is an excellent opportunity to bring publishers and reading groups together through our Reading Groups for Everyone website. We’re asking our publisher partners to join us in celebrating both exciting new writing talent and the reading groups that play such an important role in building successful authors and spreading word of mouth recommendations.”
All submissions from publishers will be listed on the Reading Groups for Everyone website.
Reading groups across the UK will then be encouraged to vote online for the newcomer author they would most like to read, and will be invited to register interest in reviewing the winning title.
Online voting will run from 27th April to 24th May.
The winning title and the reading groups selected to receive and review copies of it will be announced on National Reading Group Day.
Reading group reviews will be posted on Reading Groups for Everyone, and The Reading Agency will work with the winning author’s local libraries and reading groups to broker events.
The deadline for nominations from publishers is 17th April. Publishers can nominate one title of fiction or narrative non-fiction per imprint, and titles have to have been published in paperback between June 2014 and June 2015.
