Scribe signs journalist Sarner’s debut

Scribe has snapped up journalist Moya Sarner’s first book When Do You Grow Up?

Scribe UK’s editorial and publicity manager Molly Slight acquired world English rights from Rebecca Carter at Janklow & Nesbit. Scribe will publish in the UK, Australia, and the US in 2022.

In the book, Sarner — whose freelance work has appeared in G2, Guardian Weekend, Times2, the Times Magazine, the Sunday Times Magazine, New Scientist and Stylist — will examine what growing up actually means, and how we do it again and again throughout our lives, with each chapter focusing on a different stage of adult life.

Slight said: "I am delighted to be working with Moya on her first book, which takes the question that we have all asked ourselves at one stage or another— When will I grow up? — and turns it on its head, asking instead what it actually means to ‘grow up’ and what challenges and opportunities each life stage presents. Moya’s ambition is to make people feel connected, to tell stories that they will recognise themselves or others in, that will make them feel less isolated in their experiences of growing up, at every life stage; in this book, she will take an aspect of the human experience that is at the same time both universal and deeply personal, and show how it echoes through our lives and the lives of those around us."
