Scholastic signs Sam & Mark

Scholastic has signed a two-book deal with Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes, who are together known as the children’s TV presenters Sam & Mark.

Together Nixon and Rhodes have written The Adventures of Long Arm, a humorous tale about Ricky Mitre, a young boy who is always in trouble, and his best friend Simon who helps him avoid gym teachers and school bullies. When Ricky accidently gets his arm stuck down the U-bend of the staff toilet and emerges with a super long arm, his adventures as a brand-new “superkid” are just the beginning.

Maya Maraj, licensing scout for Scholastic UK, struck a deal for the world publishing rights to two books with Grainne Montgomery of Billy Marsh Associates.

Samantha Selby Smith, fiction and picture book publisher at Scholastic UK, said: “Anyone who has watched Sam and Mark over the years – as singers, as presenters – know that they have an unparalleled knack for knowing exactly what makes kids laugh and keeps them entertained. We can’t wait for them to bring their energy, enthusiasm and brilliant sense of humour to this fantastic new series”.

Nixon and Rhodes found fame on the 2003 series of Pop Idol when they finished third and second respectively behind Michelle McManus. Since then they have presented children’s TV shows such as "TMi", "Copycats" and "Sam & Mark’s Big Friday Wind-Up".

Scholastic will publish The Adventures of Long Arm in July 2015.
