Sceptre, an imprint of Hodder & Stoughton, has commissioned the first memoir of comedian Alexei Sayle, on the back of the success of his three-part BBC TV series Alexei Sayle’s Liverpool. The autobiography will focus on his life growing up in the city during the 1960s and 70s.
The deal was struck by Rupert Lancaster, through agent Peter Straus at Rogers, Coleridge and White. Sceptre, which has British Commonwealth rights, has published Sayle’s fiction since his debut Barcelona Plates in 2000.
Publisher Carole Welch said: "I'm absolutely certain that it will be a very special book. Alexei is one of the most original voices writing today."
