Sceptre author Sebastian Horsley, 47, has died in his flat in Soho of a drugs overdose.
Horsley, who passed away last week, wrote the memoir Dandy in the Underworld, which was published to positive reviews in 2008.
Jocasta Hamilton, deputy publisher at Sceptre, said: "Always entertaining, sometimes outrageous and occasionally exasperating, beneath the look-at-me suits, Sebastian was an exceptionally kind, sensitive and generous man.
"He was a wonderful writer who became a very good friend and will be very much missed by his friends, family and Soho."
Tim Fountain's play based on Horsley's memoir opened last week at the Soho Theatre, and runs until the 10th July.
