Holtzbrinck chief tells staff he took decision for Sargent's departure

Holtzbrinck's chief executive Stefan von Holtzbrinck has told staff that he took the decision for c.e.o. John Sargent (pictured) to depart.

In a public statement yesterday, the company said only that Sargent would be leaving the firm on 1st January 2021 because of “disagreements” on the direction of the firm.

But a letter sent to Macmillan employees makes clear that the decision for Sargent's departure came from von Holtzbrinck.
