Sales and publicity changes at PRH Ireland

Penguin Random House Ireland is to bring all publicity for Penguin, Random House and DK publishing in-house, with sales moving to one integrated team, and Michael McLoughlin appointed as m.d. of the business.

The changes will be effective from 1st January 2016 and, said Penguin Random House, “will simplify the way Penguin Random House interacts with customers in Ireland and will enable consistent sales and publicity strategies across all publishing”. The changes mean titles from the Random House publishing companies will cease to be sold and promoted by Gill Hess Ltd. at the end of 2015.

McLoughlin, previously m.d. of Penguin Ireland, becomes m.d. of Penguin Random House Ireland and continues to report to Joanna Prior, m.d. of Penguin General. A new publicity team working across all Penguin Random House and DK titles will be established and will report in to McLoughlin.

Cliona Lewis remains publicity director for the Penguin and DK lists, to include Penguin Random House Children’s UK, and a new publicity director will be recruited to work across the Transworld and Random House lists. Patricia McVeigh is promoted to publicity manager and will work across all lists.

As part of the new structure, Brian Walker is appointed as sales director for Penguin Random House Ireland and will oversee sales for all Penguin Random House and DK titles. Walker will report to Naomi Fidler, UK sales director, Penguin. Two new Ireland-based key account managers will be recruited.

Eoin McHugh, publisher of Transworld Ireland, will continue to report to Transworld publisher Bill Scott-Kerr.

Tom Weldon, c.e.o. of Penguin Random House UK, said: “Ireland is an incredibly important market to Penguin Random House and the time is now right to build on our own, locally-based teams who will be able to combine extensive local market knowledge and expertise with the resources, insight and innovations of our wider group.”

Garry Prior, Penguin Random House UK sales director, said: “We have enjoyed a long and very successful partnership with Gill, Simon and the team at Gill Hess Ltd. who have represented our publishing and authors with great enthusiasm, drive and commitment. On behalf of the Random House companies, I’d like to extend our thanks to everyone at Gill Hess Ltd on the great job they’ve done for us and wish them well for the future.”
