US book publisher CQ Press has been bought by international academic publishing firm Sage for an undisclosed sum. CQ Press, which serves the library, college and professional markets with print and online products, publishes around 100 new titles a year, primarily on political science, mass communication and other similar themes.
The Washington-based company was sold by parent news organisation Congressional Quarterly, in order to focus on its core periodicals and newspaper publishing business. Sage, which has offices in London, California, Delhi and Singapore, plans to operate CQ Press as a separate division from its existing offices, retaining all CQ's senior management.
Sage already publishes around 500 journals and 700 academic books a year.
