PFD has said that there is a "tremendous buzz" around book and film rights for The Boy from Baby House 10: A True Story by Alan Philps and John Lahutsky.
Annabel Merullo at PFD sold the world rights to Michael Flamini at St Martin's Press for a six-figure sum. Alan Samson from Weidenfeld & Nicolson has also bought UK and Commonwealth rights and will be publishing the title in autumn 2009.
Samson described the story as "horrifying and inspiring, this book deserves to be a modern classic". Additional rights have also been sold to Italy, China and Germany. "
The book is rapidly becoming a global publishing sensation for 2009," said Merullo. There has been interest from film companies including Plan B Entertainment, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's production company.
The book tells of a boy who was taken into care at the fall of the Soviet Union. At the age of six he was incarcerated in an adult mental asylum but managed to fight for escape.
