Cornerstone marketing director Claire Round will leave the company to join HarperCollins as the new associate publisher of Harper NonFiction and Collins in April.
Round has headed the marketing department for Random House’s Cornerstone imprint for six and a half years, where she worked with authors such as James Patterson, John Grisham, Peter Kay and Tony Blair.
In her new role, Round will be responsible for “providing a stronger connection” between editorial, sales and marketing as well as managing the marketing and PR departments.
Round said: "I have loved working at Random House and it has been a privilege to work with such fantastic authors and colleagues. But it is time for a new challenge and the associate publisher role is a wonderful opportunity to apply my strategic marketing experience to the wealth of terrific books being published on the NonFiction and Collins lists. I’m really looking forward to joining the teams there and working with them to keep building on their successes."
Round will report jointly to Carole Tonkinson and Hannah MacDonald, publishers of Harper NonFiction and Collins respectively.
Tonkinson said: "Round couldn’t be joining Harper NonFiction at a more exciting time with a forthcoming list featuring Pete Townshend, John Bishop [and] Justin Bieber . . . She brings a wealth of strategic marketing and publishing knowledge across the broadest range of genres which perfectly matches the breadth of our NonFiction list."
Round has also worked in marketing for Orion and Pan Macmillan and began her career at HarperCollins.
