Harper Element has signed a first-person account from a survivor of the Rotherham abuse scandal.
Publisher Natalie Jerome and interim editorial director Kate Latham acquired world English language rights in Violated: My True Story as a Survivor of the Rotherham Abuse Scandal by Sarah Wilson from literary agent Clare Hulton.
Latham said: "We were immediately humbled, shocked and inspired by Sarah’s story. Sarah was targeted by a gang of British-Asian men at just eleven years old, and was groomed and then abused for five years before managing to escape the horrific control of the men and return to her family. The media and the politicians have asked how the situation in Rotherham could happen, now Sarah gives the first full account from a victim."
Wilson, who has waived her anonymity to share her experience, said: 'I want to tell my story, to show all the girls involved in the abuse that there is a way out and that it is possible to survive. I also hope that my book will encourage other victims to come forward."
The book will be published in July this year supported by a PR campaign.
