Rock the Boat to publish reinvention of Arthurian legend

Oneworld imprint Rock the Boat has acquired Once and Future, a reinvention of the Arthurian legend set in space, by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy.

The story is about an immigrant teenage girl called Ari who, along with her adoptive brother Kay, is living illegally in the galaxies controlled by the Mercer Company. When their spaceship crashes on Old Earth and Ari pulls a magic sword from an ancient willow, she confirms her fate as the forty-second reincarnation of King Arthur.

Editorial director Gill Evans bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Polly Nolan at Greenhouse Literary Agency and will publish simultaneously with the US publisher Little, Brown in April 2019.

Evans said: “I am so excited to be publishing the wondrous Once and Future. Our mission at Rock the Boat is to find brilliant and meaningful writing for young readers and this virtuoso novel is exactly right for us. A pacy quest told with brio, with characters ranging the sexual spectrum, it has passion, sensual romance and inclusivity while also raising issues of globalisation, genocide and identity. A tale for our times and highly entertaining.’
