Roberts joins HC Children’s as art director

HarperCollins Children’s Books has hired Nia Roberts as art director, where she will be responsible for the cross portfolio design strategy. She will also develop the picture book list.

Roberts is currently art director at Simon & Schuster where she has worked with authors and illustrators such as Benji Davies, Sue Hendra, Sara Ogilvie and Ben Cort.

She will start her new role in April and will report operationally to Rachel Denwood, publishing and creative director, and strategically to executive publisher Ann-Janine Murtagh.

“I am delighted Nia is joining our team here at HarperCollins Children’s Books,” said Murtagh. “Nia is an exceptionally talented and creative designer who has an excellent reputation for working closely with her illustrators and finding the very best in new talent. I look forward to the energy and enthusiasm she will bring to the HarperCollins Children’s Book list, working with Rachel and our award-winning design team.”

As well as Simon and Schuster, Roberts as worked with Random House, Kingfisher and Orchard Books.

She takes over the role previously occupied by James Stevens, who has moved on to pursue a new opportunity outside book publishing.
