HarperCollins has appointed Rob Thompson to a newly created role of export education sales director. Thompson joins from education publisher Nelson Thornes, where he was international sales director. He will report to David Roche, group sales and trade marketing director.
HarperCollins said Thompson's appointment "aims to expand export sales in language learning and reference products as well as other important education publishing categories". HC is now the third largest education publisher in the UK, following March acquisition of Letts, Lonsdale and Leckie & Leckie.
Roche said: "This is a high-profile role and we were impressed with the strong leadership qualities, commercial acumen and wealth of education export publishing experience that Rob has. He will be a strong addition to the team."
Thompson said: "There is a great opportunity to really expand the much-respected Collins brand in these significant markets. I’m really looking forward to working with the export sales team to raise the profile of the Collins brand in education markets across the world."
