Rachel Mills Literary (RML) is partnering with Stylist magazine on a prize aiming to discover new female voices who are yet to be published.
The Stylist Prize for Feminist Fiction invites submissions for adult fiction across genres, and will award £1,000 to the winner, in addition to representation from RML. Nelle Andrew, agent at RML, will be among the judges, alongside author Sara Collins and Katy Loftus, publisher at Viking.
Andrew said: "Ever since I arrived at RML I have said I wanted to launch a prize to discover exciting new female fiction. I describe my list as commercial feminism anyway and Stylist seemed like the perfect partner to create this kind of initiative that would reach out and discover the next Sally Rooney or Margaret Atwood. It is part of RML's forward thinking to constantly seek new avenues to authors and exciting new opportunities for the agency."
Rachel Mills, the agency's founder, added: "Stylist is the perfect partner for a groundbreaking new prize to find the next generation of exciting female authors. Every day, we have tentative submissions from supremely talented women mired in imposter syndrome and self-doubt, and we know there are many more out there, for whom the publishing world feels distant, baffling or exclusive. Stylist's brilliant, smart but accessible platform will provide an incredible opportunity to reach more of them. We are so thrilled to work with them."
The prize is being launched through Stylist, with a deadline of 5th July for entries. Entrants need to supply a full story outline and either the first three chapters or 50 pages. Full details on how to enter can be found here.
