Carla Hutchinson is to join Bloomsbury Children's Books this September as commissioning editor for fiction.
Currently editor at Bonnier children's imprints Hot Key Books and Piccadilly Press, Hutchinson will join the team on 6th September, reporting to head of fiction Ellen Holgate.
Prior to her five-year tenure at Bonnier, Hutchinson worked as an editorial assistant at Hachette Children's Book Group. She has commissioned popular titles from Joya Goffney, Ciannon Smart and Waterstones Children’s Book Prize-shortlisted author Jordan Ifueko, and worked closely with writers including Elizabeth Acevedo and Alexandra Christo. She has also championed the acquisition of stories which promote diversity in children's publishing.
She said: "Hot Key and Piccadilly Press have been incredible imprints to work for at Bonnier Books and I’ve really enjoyed my time working with phenomenal authors and a brilliant team. I’m so excited to start this new chapter and join the dynamic fiction team at Bloomsbury Children’s Books. The prospect of driving an impressive roster of notable authors and building a fresh and innovative list of commercial, inclusive, diverse children’s books is something I strive for and completely believe in—and I can’t wait to get started."
Holgate added: "Carla is a rising star in children's fiction. She has big ambitions for her authors and a strong commercial sense. Coupled with her passion, integrity and great taste in books, she's the perfect fit for Bloomsbury Children’s Books as we look to the future of our fiction list."
