W H Smith has signed an exclusive deal to extend the Richard and Judy Book Club until 2015.
The high street retailer has signed a contract with the celebrity couple to personally read and recommend eight fiction titles to WHS shoppers three times a year for the next four years. Richard and Judy originally signed up with WHS last year and are due to launch their summer Book Club list to the public on Thursday (12th May).
Rachel Russell, WHS books business unit director, said the retailer will now continue its schedule of releasing three Book Club lists a year and a Children’s Book Club list for the next four years.
She said: “I think it secures a better promotion for debut authors for the next four years which is critical for the success of the fiction market going forward.”
As for WHS, Russell said: “It puts us at the centre of launching debut authors for consumers and it give us an opportunity to breakthrough authors into a mass market which is really exciting.”
The next eight titles in the Richard and Judy Book Club promotion will be announced tomorrow morning (11th May).
