RHCP acquires new Palacio titles

Random House Children’s has acquired three new print titles and an e-book original from R.J Palacio, author of Wonder.

RHCP editor Natalie Doherty and publisher Annie Eaton acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights from Alyssa Eisner Henkin and Alexander Slater at Trident Media Group. Barbara Marcus, president and publisher of RHCP in the US, also acquired the books.

The e-book The Julian Chapter: A Wonder Story will be published in May, followed by 365 Days of Wonder: Mr Browne’s Book of Precepts, a companion book to Wonder, will come out in August.

Two additional untitled novels by Palacio were acquired in the deal and will be released on dates to be announced.

The e-book focuses on the story of Julian, the bully character in Wonder, while 365 Days of Wonder: Mr Browne’s Book of Precepts is a book of daily wisdom and quotes. It contains words of wisdom from notable figures such as Anne Frank and Nelson Mandela, as well as submissions from Wonder readers.

First published in 2012, Wonder tells the story of a 10-year-old boy with a facial deformity. In the UK it won the 2013 Waterstone’s children’s book prize for the 5-12 age range and the independent booksellers’ book award.
