Fig Tree has pre-empted a new cookbook called My Venetian Kitchen by Russell Norman, author of Polpo (Bloomsbury).
Juliet Annan, publishing director of Fig Tree (an imprint of Penguin General), struck the deal for world rights with Cathryn Summerhayes at Curtis Brown.
My Venetian Kitchen features 100 recipes showcasing "the simple but exquisite flavours" of La Serenissima, and sets out to provide an "intimate glimpse into the life of the city", touching on the history of Venice and its hidden architectural gems and secret places.
Norman’s Polpo won Waterstones Book of the Year 2012, and his second book Sputino (also published by Bloomsbury) won the 2016 Guild of Food Writers Award for best food and travel book.
Norman said: “It’s fair to say that Venice is a city that has serious hold on me. Its culture, food, beauty and mystique have shaped my life and career. I am giddy with excitement to be writing this book and determined to capture the culinary heart of the city.”
Annan said: “I've admired Russell Norman's style and panache for some time and I am excited he is bringing his delicious and clever Venetian book to Fig Tree."
