HarperCollins Children's Books has acquired world rights, excluding the US and Canada, to a new series from international bestselling author Louise Rennison.
Due to launch in 2010, the series will be set against the “funny and eccentric” background of a performing arts school. It will introduce readers to a new cast of characters “in a world of friendship, rivalry and embarrassing moments”.
The three-book, six-figure deal was agreed by Gillie Russell, fiction publishing director at HarperCollins Children's Books and agent Clare Alexander at Aitken Alexander Associates. HarperCollins US will publish the series in the States.
Rennison's first series, Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, is likely to come to an end when the tenth book is published in July next year. The series has so far sold 1.7m copies in the UK and the official Georgia Nicolson website boasts over 70,000 “Ace Gang'”members.
A movie of the first two books, Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging, was released in the UK by Paramount Pictures in July. In September, Louise was crowned The Book People's first ever “Queen of Teen”.
