Red launches book club and doubles books coverage

Red magazine is launching the Red Book Club and doubling the amount of space it dedicates to books.

Book reviewer Viv Groskop has been appointed literary editor of the magazine to handle the expanded coverage.

Red editor-in-chief Sam Baker promised the new book club would "champion the very best new releases whether by big names of unknowns, without genre snobbery."

The last Friday of each month will see a lunch hour web chat with the author of the Book of the Month on Redonline.co.uk, with Kim Izzo, author of The Jane Austen Marriage Manual (Hodder), the first writer to speak live to readers (Friday 27th April). Joanne Harris will chat about her latest novel, Peaches for Mr Le Cure (Doubleday), on 25th May.

"Books are a huge part of our readers' lives and we wanted to provide a place where they can talk direct to each other and to their favourite authors," said Baker.

From the May issue, the magazine's books pages will cover five books instead of three and there will be an extended feature spot for the Book of the Month.
