Rebellion scoops 'chilling' novel by detective Smith

Rebellion Publishing imprint Solaris has scooped “chilling” feminist novel Anna by police detective Sammy H K Smith as a lead title for summer 2021.

Editor Kate Coe acquired world English rights in the novel from the author, for publication in hardback and e-book on 27th May 2021.

Set in a near-future dystopia, Anna explores the conflicts between selfhood and expectations, safety and control, and the sacrifices we make for the sake of protection.

The synopsis explains: “Anna is a possession. She is owned by the man named Will, shielded from the world of struggles and possessions by his care. He loves her, protects her, and then breaks her. Anna is obedient, dutiful, and compliant. Anna does not know her place in the world. When she falls pregnant, Anna leaves her name behind, and finds the strength to run. But the past—and Will—catch up with her in an idyllic town with a dark secret?”

In a separate deal, Rebellion Publishing, which is the publishing arm of video games developer Rebellion will publish a business and lifestyle guide from its c.e.o. Jason Kingsley.

In Leading the Rebellion: Questing to Succeed in Work and Life, Kingsley reveals how he uses the Code of Chivalry as a guide to work, life and happiness, said the publisher.

Rebellion explained: “Each chapter will focus on one main chivalric theme, and how it has influenced his philosophy, helped equip him with personal tools to succeed, and how it has maximised his work-life balance, as well as providing insight into his love for the medieval period and how this complements his professional life.”

Editor Michael Rowley acquired the book with global rights in all media directly from the author. Leading the Rebellion is out in hardback, e-book and audiobook in August 2021.
