Sheffield-based indie Vertebrate has appointed Kirsty Reade, formerly of Macmillan International Higher Education, as commissioning editor.
Reade will be responsible for developing Vertebrate’s growing list of climbing, off-road running, wild swimming and cycling books and guides.
A dedicated mountain runner, Reade has over 19 years of publishing experience, including working across a range of academic publishing roles. In 2006 she joined Oxford University Press as publishing manager for social science textbooks. In 2012 she took up the role of senior publisher at Macmillan International Higher Education. Since 2018 she has worked freelance for a number of publishers, magazines and websites, specialising in outdoor content.
Vertebrate’s founder, Jon Barton, said: “This is one of a number of key appointments we will be making over the summer as Vertebrate respond to a growth in demand for quality outdoor leisure and adventure books. I am delighted to welcome her to the team.”
