Macmillan Children's Books has appointed current Carlton Publishing m.d. Belinda Rasmussen to the role of publisher.
She will report directly to Pan Macmillan m.d. Anthony Forbes Watson, and will join the Pan Macmillan executive board. Her start date is still to be confirmed.
Rasmussen has been m.d. at Carlton since 2008, and during her time at the indie she expanded the children's publishing programme, launched Carlton's e-book list, developed digitally enhanced e-books and apps, and invested in licensed publishing partnerships.
Rasmussen said: "I'm very excited at the prospect of leading one of the very best children's lists in the UK, in a dynamic company that's enthusiastically embracing innovation in all publishing formats. I look forward to meeting and working with the people behind the books, the stories and the pictures." She added: "I'm very honoured . . . I get the sense that it's a big company that still maintains some appetite for innovation, to try new things, and that is very important. I wouldn't have moved from Carlton for anything else. The opportunity to focus on children's was just such an opportunity."
Forbes Watson said: "I'm confident that she will bring a combination of leadership, commerciality, creativity and internationalism to the task of strengthening MCB's position as a distinctive industry leader . . . and will be a terrific addition to our senior management team."
