Random House launches 'Happy Foodie'

Random House has launched "The Happy Foodie" website, together with a newsletter and Twitter and Facebook feeds.

The site will offer recipes, interviews, features and competitions and will offer discounts on titles.

The Happy Foodie is Random House's first responsive design website, optimised for mobile, tablets and desktops, and was developed by the publisher's digital and new product development team with start–up Flocker, in conjunction with RH's four adult publishing divisions. Cookery project manager Julia Pal, who launched and ran Channel 4's 4Food will manage the Happy Foodie community alongside senior digital marketing manager Ruth Spencer.

As of today (2nd September), The Happy Foodie is offering an interview with Rick Stein, recipes from Mary Berry and Nigella Lawson, a competition to win hamper of cookery books and a food processor, and a 40% discount on baking books. Many more authors will be added during coming months.

Digital marketing and new product development director Hannah Telfer said: "Building effective direct relationships with readers is a critical part of driving the discovery of our authors and their books. The success of our first Group wide vertical, Dead Good [an online crime community], has paved the way for the launch of The Happy Foodie."

She added: "Cookery is a competitive market online so reader feedback has been invaluable in shaping The Happy Foodie brand and channels, ensuring we bring our cookery books to life through relevant content and conversation and designed for all devices."

Flocker c.e.o. Toni Hopponen said: "Cookery lends itself very well to a range of visual channels but the challenge that many other content providers have yet to meet is creating a consistent experience of interacting with them from a range of devices."
