The Random House Group has appointed Dan Franklin to the role of digital editor. Franklin moves from indie publisher Canongate, where he was also digital editor.
Franklin joins on 4th January and will work across all RHG companies. He will report into Zoe Willis, editorial director for e-books and audio, and work closely with digital publisher Jonathan Davis and his team. Random House said he will work most on "direct to digital" projects.
Fionnuala Duggan, group digital director, said: "Dan's appointment strengthens and broadens our existing digital publishing expertise. His editorial instincts and digital knowledge will be invaluable to the publishing teams as we continue to experiment and innovate in the digital sphere. Part of his remit will be to help widen our focus to include direct to digital projects as well as seeking out opportunities opened up by new multimedia colour devices, smartphones and tablets in the rapidly growing digital market."
Franklin said: "I am delighted to be joining the digital team at Random House. I cannot wait to explore the digital possibilities of the vast breadth and depth of its list, and to bring new, exciting digital projects to the table. I strongly believe that publishers are central to the future of digital reading and look forward to collaborating with the editorial teams in-house, and developing relationships outside, to prove this point. The coming years are going to be crucial and I look forward to helping Random House be at the centre of the digital space."
Franklin joins from Canongate where he has worked for six years. He has held the post of digital editor since March 2009, joining originally as assistant to m.d. and publisher Jamie Byng. He has worked on projects such as Nick Cave's Bunny Munro app and Simon's Cat for the PlayStation Portable.
