Former Bookseller editor Nicholas Clee is among the shortlisted nominees for this year’s William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award.
Clee’s Eclipse (Bantam) is one of three Random House titles on the shortlist. Rick Broadbent’s Ring of Fire (Bantam) and John Daniell’s Confessions of a Rugby Mercenary (Ebury) are also nominated. Former William Hill winner Duncan Hamilton is nominated for his biography of bowler Harold Larwood (Quercus). The remaining nominees are Ian Hawkey’s Feet of the Chameleon (Portico) and Graham Joyce’s Simple Goalkeeping Made Spectacular (Mainstream).
The prize is celebrating its 21st birthday this year. The winner receives a £21,000 cash prize, a £2,000 William Hill bet, a hand-bound copy of their book, and a day at the races.
The judging panel for this year’s award consists of broadcaster and writer John Inverdale; award-winning journalist Hugh McIlvanney; broadcaster Danny Kelly; and columnist and author, Alyson Rudd. Chairman of the judging panel is John Gaustad, co-creator of the award and founder of the Sportspages bookshop.
The winner will be revealed on 26th November at Waterstone's in Piccadilly.
