Random House is expanding on its Ripley Publishing licence with a new series of children's books titled Ripley's Twists. Nigel Wilcockson, publishing director of RH, bought UK and South African rights from Norm Deska, Ripley's executive vice-president.
The new books will provide serious information on subjects such as the human body, space and the natural world. They will however have a Ripley 'twist' and be satirical and entertaining. The first four books will cover the Human Body, Wild Animals, Space and Mighty Machines and will be published in September this year. Further titles will be released in 2010.
Wilcockson said: "The new series has all the Ripley virtues. The books are visually stunning and incredibly entertaining. Children will love them." Deska added: "The Ripley’s book brand has come a long way in a very short period of time. We fully intend to build on the major successes we have already enjoyed."
Random had previously published the Ripley annual, but announced in December last year that it would be launching children's books.
