John Murray is to publish Thing Explainer, the follow-up to Randall Munroe’s What If?
In Thing Explainer: Complicated Stuff in Simple Words, Munroe uses a series of diagrams to show how a variety of things, from a nuclear bomb to a biro, work.
He will use just the drawings and a vocabulary of 1,000 of the most common words in the English language.
Georgina Laycock acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Thing Explainer from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Seth Fishman at the Genert Company.
Munroe’s What If? was released in September 2014 and is based on his What If? web columns, answering hypothetical questions with serious scientific answers. It is a spinoff of his webcomic, xkcd.
Thing Explainer will be published in November 2015 as a £16.99 hardback.
