Quercus signs debut by Scholastic's Sanger

Quercus has bought a debut novel by Scholastic Books’ employee David Sanger.

Editor Richard Arcus bought world rights, excluding the US, to All Their Minds in Tandem from Becky Thomas at Fox Mason.

All Their Minds in Tandem takes place in New Georgetown, West Virginia, in October 1879, the month that a mysterious figure named The Maker enters the small town and, immediately upon doing so, begins to enter the minds of the townsfolk.

Arcus said: “By writing about one man’s rare powers David Sanger has found the perfect way to showcase his own. I was instantly arrested by a deeply enigmatic lead character, and then continually rewarded by a joyously kaleidoscopic and universally engaging supporting cast. David’s novel is 'Twin Peaks' in the 1800s.”

Sanger, 30, works as a publicity officer for Scholastic Books, and previously worked at Faber.

All Their Minds in Tandem will be released in hardback in spring 2016.
