Quercus has fully repaid the the short-term capital it sought from its majority shareholder Pentland Group, six months after the funding had been negotiated.
The news came as part of a trading update, in which the company directors announced they expected full-year results to be "materially ahead of current market expectations". The publisher has also secured an increase in available banking facilities, under a new agreement with the Bank of Ireland.
Quercus' "strong" growth for the year so far has been driven by "particularly high" sales of the three Stieg Larsson novels - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. The company added that both trade and contract publishing divisions were "trading at or above plan".
This is expected to continue through Christmas and into 2010. But the statement added: "The directors remain cautious and watchful of the health of high street book retailers and the level of consumer confidence."
