Quercus has acquired The Watchers, the second novel by British author Neil Spring.
Fiction editor Kathryn Taussig bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Cathryn Summerhayes of William Morris Endeavour.
Based on true events, The Watchers is a “spooky, historical thriller” set during the Cold War in a remote coastal village whose residents live in the shadow of an ancient secret.
When the local primary school is the scene of a terrifying UFO encounter, a Parliamentary researcher is sent from London to investigate.
Taussig said: “I’m thrilled that next Halloween we will be publishing another terrifying tale by this talented and promising author. The Watchers will sit beautifully alongside Neil’s first novel, The Ghost Hunters, and is just as compelling and completely page-turning.”
The Ghost Hunters was published by Quercus in 2013. It is currently in development for adaptation into a television drama seires.
Quercus will publish The Watchers in October 2015.
